There was an Old Lady who Swallowed a Shell

This morning we reviewed things we have learned throughout the year. We finished our ABCC pattern for the month of May. The kids practiced counting by 1's, 2's, 5's, and 10's. Instead of blending words in a specific word family we reviewed words with short vowels, long vowels and other vowels. The kids came up to the board and blended the sounds together to say the word. I was so proud of them....they did a fabulous job!
Our story today was "There was an Old Lady that Swallowed a Shell" by Lucille Colandro. In the story the Old Lady ate a shell, crab, fish, gull, pail, sand, and a wave. Then she burped....and out came a sand castle. After reading the story, the kids sequenced the things the Old Lady. Then we counted how many things she ate...she ate 7 things! Next, the kids answer questions using ordinal number clues. At the end of circle the kids wrote words from the story....sand, gull, shell, wave, crab, and fish. They all worked so hard!

For art we made a beach ball. This morning the kids helped die the sand different colors. We had green, blue, purple, red, orange and yellow sand. The kids put glue in section one at a time and used a spoon to pour the colored rice onto the paper. We worked our way around the beach ball until it was all colored in.

After eating lunch we practiced some of our favorite songs to sing on the last day of school. Only 3 more days of school. We are excited to spend time with everyone's family at the park tomorrow!
