Time to go Fishing

This morning we talked about things we like to do outside in the spring. We also reviewed the letter J and listed words that begin with the /j/ sound. This was kinda tricky. Words that start with /j/ can either be spelled with a j in jump or a g in gym.

Today was Ms. Michelle's last day. She brought some of our favorite things back to us to play with. The kids rotated through different centers. They could walk on Shrek feet stilts, ride the ezyroller, write and draw with special ice cream sidewalk chalk, pop bubbles or used nails to hammer a picture. At the end Ms. Michelle had water beads for finger fun. She had clear, blue and green beads. The kids used scoops and buckets to sort, collect and dump the beads. Everyone have Ms. Michelle a HUGE hug! We hope she has a great summer!
Our story today was "Nathans' Fishing Trip" by Lulu Delacre. Nicholas Alexander gives Nathan a fishing lesson. Nathan learned to hold the fishing pole in the water and sit very still. When he caught his first fish he got so excited to stood up and tipped the boat over. Finally Nathan used his long trunk to catch a fish. But when they were getting ready to eat the fish Nathan asked to put it back into the water. After reading the story we labeled the different equipment needed to fish. We also sequenced the steps on how to fish.

For art today the kids made a big fish. First they colored the paper bag to make the outside of the fish. Then they ripped and crumbled big pieces of paper and pushed them into the paper bag. Next we tied a string around the fish to make a body and a tail. Last, we added two eyes so our fish could see where to swim. At home they can use imaginary play to practice fishing.

Please where comfortable shoes to school tomorrow. We are learning all about baseball and will be heading to the park to play t-ball. I can't believe there are only 5 more days left of school...where does the time go!
