This morning the kids matched the top and bottom of eggs. They also could hide the packing peanuts inside the eggs. During morning circle we reviewed the letter n and finished talking about shapes.
Our story today was "Sally's Great Balloon Adventure" by Stephen Huneck. When Sally’s family visited a hot air balloon field, the dog smelled fresh chicken coming from
one of the balloons. She followed the delicious scent to a balloon
basket, and—whoops—the balloon takes off! Soon she’s soaring
above the ground, looking out at the tiny people below as they try to
bring her back down. After reading the story to talked about the different parts of the hot air balloon. There is the basket where the people stand, the ropes that hold the balloon up and steer, and the envelope- which is the balloon part. There are also burners that make fire and heat up the balloon. When the fire is on the balloon goes up and when the fire is off the balloon goes down.
For music today we talked about transportation. The kids learned a song called "Everybody What do you See?" The kids sand about different transportation vehicles they saw. We also used the boom whackers when we sang "Trucks" and "I'm a Little Airplane." We ended music using the parachute and singing "We are Flying in an Airplane." Next week will be Ms. Gretchen's last week..we are going to miss our music class!
We made a hot air balloon for art today. First we needed to decorate our envelope or balloon. We spread glue over a paper plate and glued on different colored tissue paper. Next we needed to attach the basket to the balloon with rope. The kids threaded the rope through the holes in the balloon and basket. Then we tied them together so it made a hot air balloon.
Before lunch we had picture day! Mr. Brian was very helpful in the courtyard. He chased the kids and made them laugh and smile for the pictures. After eating lunch we sang songs about hot air balloons up in the sky!
