This morning we started our day with Mr. & Mrs. Potato Head. The kids described the different body parts and worked together in groups to create their own potato head. The kids loved singing "Hello Neighbor" with their new friends during morning circle. We reviewed our friends names and talked about the calendar before going outside.
Our story today was "What I Like About ME!" by Allia Zobel-Nolan. In the story the kids talked about what made them special. Some people have long hair and others have short hair...it can be red, black, yellow or brown. We can be short or tall. We are all different and that is what makes us special! After reading the story the kids used a mirror to look at themselves. They told the class the color of their hair and if their hair was long or short. The kids also shared if their eyes were blue, green or brown.
For art they made a picture of themselves. They each selected a face to match their skin. Then they had to select the correct color hair, and eyes. They added a nose and a smile to finish the face. The kids shared their picture of themselves with the friends at their table. Everyone had a different face...because we are all different.
We ended the day with journal writing, lunch and music. Today we learned a new song about our body called "This is Me." The kids loved singing it! Can't wait for school tomorrow...and music therapy!
