Frogs Jump!

In the touch and feel pool this morning we had the different stages in the frog life cycle. There were frog eggs (made out of water beads), tadpoles (made out of pipe cleaners and a bead) and frogs. We explored how frogs grow up!
During morning circle we reviewed the calendar and talked about the letter t. The kids practiced sounding out words that started with the /t/ sound.
Our story today was "Hungry Harry" by Joanne Partis. Harry the frog wanted to catch his own dinner, but it wasn't nearly as easy as he thinks. All the animals were too fast to let Harry eat them. Then, just as he was about to give up, he spied just the right thing for dinner! There was a huge picnic where all the bugs could eat together! After reading the story we talked about the life of a frog and how it grows up. The frog starts out as an egg. Then it grows a body and tail and turns into a tadpole. Next the tadpole grows legs and turns into a froglet. Finally the tail disappears and it is a frog!

For science today we practiced jumping like frogs. Each friend had a turn to jump like a frog. Then we measured their frog jumps using non-standard measurement (how many frog pictures). After all the kids jumped we looked to see whose jump was the biggest and whose jump was the smallest. The biggest jump was 7 frogs and the smallest jump was 2 frogs.
For art the kids used frog feet to make a picture. We used frog feet cut outs and jumped around the table to make our artwork. Each kid took home their part of the art project and a frog foot so they can make more art at home!

After lunch we watched some frog videos and sang our favorite frog songs. Tomorrow we will continue talking about the life of a frog and review all the fun facts we learned about frogs!
