Frogs are Amphibians

This morning the kids practiced writing CVC and sight words on their dry erase boards. We talked about our new month during calendar time and started an ABAC pattern for March. The kids practiced identifying numbers 11-30. After reviewing our consonant and vowel sounds the kids sounded out words with -oot. We read boot, shoot, loot, hoot, toot, root and moot.
Our story today was "A Frog Thing" by Eric Drachman. Frank the Frog wanted to fly but his parents said he could only do frog things like swim, croak and hop. One day he was swimming in the pond and a baby bird fell into the water. He saved the baby bird and the mommy bird asked what she could do to thank him. He told her he really wanted to fly...so Frank went flying in the sky with the bird. After that he realized he was really good at swimming! The kids made a chart describing where frogs lice, what frogs look like and what frogs do.

During science today we learned that frogs breath through their skin...so its important they stay near the water so their skin can be wet. When we are in the water for a long time our hands look different because they have absorbed the water. The kids placed one of their hands in a tub of water for 2 minutes. We compared our dry hand and our wet hand....our wet hand was watery, slimy, cold and our fingers were wrinkly.

For art the kids made a big green frog. The frog had a big green mouth, a long tongue, two eyes, and four legs. The kids had to follow specific direction so they placed each body part in the correct place. When they were finished the kids loved making frog noises and pretending to eat flies!

Before lunch we worked on writing a lower case i. The kids also wrote a fact they learned about frogs in their journal. During lunch we talked about other fun things we will learn about frogs!
