This morning the kids went around and delivered their valentines to their friends. They read who the valentine was for and then placed it in the correct bag. They were very excited to look at all their valentines when they got home from school! During morning circle we talked about the snow and the kids shared what they did during our snow days. Our class went sledding, build a snowman and had snow ball fights!
Ms. Michelle had us build our own obstacle course today. We worked together as a team. Some friends made balance beams for us to walk across. Other friends build circle for us to jump through when walking on the obstacle course. After we had several turns on the course we had a fun tasting activity. We used our senses to describe four different foods...blueberries, dried blueberries, grapes and craisins. We smelled the food, touched the food, described the food and then tasted the food. After we tasted all four, Ms. Michelle let us ask for more of our favorite!
Our story today was Brave Lion, Scared Lion" by Joan Stimson. Jake is a brave lion cub, always doing daring deeds and showing off. His
twin brother Jasper, however, is a scardey-cat. Both have were told by
their mother to stay away from the river. But Jake isn't afraid, he
wants to show off. Until, that is, he encounters the crocodiles! Once he saw the crocodiles he was scared and Jasper was brave and saved him. After the story we talked about things that we may be scared of and talked about how important it is to be brave. We could be scared of going to a new school, going to the doctor/dentist or the dark...but we can all be brave and find ways to make it less scary.
For art we made bravery badges to remember to always be brave. First the kids glued a yellow circle onto of a green circle. Then we drew a smiley face on the yellow circle with a blue crayon. Next the kids added two stickers. Finally we glued a ribbon to the back of the badge. After completing our badges the kids shared something they are scared of and what they can do to be brave.
We ended the day with songs about our feelings. Tomorrow we will learn about being angry and talk about things we can do to calm down.
