I Touch with my Hands

This week we are learning about our five senses. During morning circle we discussed the calendar and identified numbers 1-30. The kids continued the ABC pattern. We also practiced skip counting by 10's and 5's. The class practiced the consonant and vowel sounds and then read words with -all in them. We sounded out fall, ball, tall, mall, and call.

Our story today was "The Five Senses" by Leslie & Philip Bockol. In the story the little girl explore her surround with her senses. After the story we talked about how we use our five senses. We smell with our nose, touch with our hands, hear with our ears, taste with our mouth and see with our eyes. The kids each took a turn putting their hands in the mystery box. Using their hands they felt different objects and had to guess what was inside the box. Then as a class we made a Touch and Feel book, which described what objects feel like....bumpy, smooth, soft, rough and hard.

For art the kids identify what objects felt like with the words from our Touch and Feel book. We decided that foil was smooth, a popsicle stick was hard, sand paper was rough, a cotton ball was soft and cardboard was bumpy. After we glued the objects by the correct words we thought of other things that fit in each category. Our shirts were soft and the table was hard.

During writing today we described our sense of touch in our journals. The kids also practiced writing numbers 1-10. After lunch we sang songs about things we can feel with our hands. Tomorrow we will learn about our sense of smell!
