This morning we practiced writing sight words. Before our morning circle we looked at our science experiment from last week. Last week we made predictions to see if there were germs on the doorknob, a book, our mouth, the kitchen sink, the table and a plant. When we looked into the cups we could see the germs growing! The plant had to most germs.
During morning circle the kids continued the ABC pattern. We practiced identifying the days of the week and months of the year by initial sounds. After reviewing the Sounds Around Town the kids blended sounds with -it to make words.
Our story today was "The Edible Pyramid" by Loreen Leedy. We learned about the five food groups: grain, vegetable, fruit, dairy and meat. The kids described foods that fit into each category. The story described why it is important to eat healthy and the five food groups. After reading the story we talked about our "plate." When eating a meal it is important that we have the five food groups....these are everyday foods. We can also have sometimes foods like cookies, candy, ice cream and chips.
For science the kids described and sorted foods. Some foods were healthy foods and other foods were junk foods. We can eat healthy food all the time and we can eat junk food sometimes. We talked about what category the food belongs in...grain/bread, vegetable, fruit, dairy/milk, and meat/protein.
During our writing centers today the kids practiced writing numbers 1, 2, and 3. They also wrote about healthy food in their journals. For lunch today the kids were talking about the different food groups in their lunch box. It was a wonderful way to review everything we learned throughout the day!
