I See with my Eyes

Today was our last day talking about our five senses. During morning circle we reviewed the calendar, finished our ABC pattern for the month and practiced identifying numbers 1-30 out of order. The kids reviewed the consonant sounds and the vowel circle. Today we sounded out-ot words. We read dot, hot, not, pot, got, rot and shot. The last thing we did in circle was practice our sight words.

Our story today was "The Bear Went Over the Mountain" by Iza Trapini. In the story Bear went on an adventure and used all of his senses. He smelled the grass and flowers. He saw the ducks and rabbits. He heard birds and chipmunks. He touched the frogs and fish. He tasted the sweet honey. After reading the story the kids used the board to describe their five senses. They also shared their favorite sense and used descriptive words.

For science today we used our five senses to describe popcorn. First we observed what it looked like before it was popped. It was yellow, hard and smooth. Then we headed to the kitchen to watch the popcorn pop on the stove. After it was all popped we brought it back to the classroom and described how it looked. It was white, fluffy, smelled like butter and tasted salty. The kids enjoyed having a few pieces of popcorn before lunchtime!

For art the kids made a collage. We took all the body parts we need to use our senses and made a picture. We used eyes, nose, ears, mouth and hands. The kids had to assemble them together to look like a person's face!

We started working on lower case letter in writing today. Our first lowercase letter is l. The kids practiced writing lowercase letters on the ipad. We also wrote about our favorite sense in our journals.

After lunch we ended the day with Show and Tell. The kids loved listening to our friends share! There is a colored folder in each kids book bag. It has letter practice, a senses activity and a short book to practice sounding out words and reading. Please take out all the materials in the folder and place it back into the book bag. I will collect the folders on Monday and return them with work every Friday.
