I Taste with my Tongue

This morning we reviewed our five senses. The kids talked about March starting next week and that spring will be here soon. We reviewed words that start with the letter D, S and L.

Our story today was "Delicious!" by Helen Cooper. In the story Duck, Cat and Squirrel go looking for pumpkins to make pumpkin soup. When they can't find any pumpkins they start looking through the recipe book to find a different soup to make. The try fish soup, mushroom soup and beet soup...Cat thinks the soups are scrumptious, Squirrel thinks the soups are nutritious but Duck won't even try the soups! He said he only wanted ORANGE pumpkin soup. So Cat had an idea....they made a orange soup with tomatoes, corn and carrots. When duck saw the soup he thought it was pumpkin soup because it was orange....but when he tasted it he realized it wasn't pumpkin. Even thought it was pumpkin soup, Duck thought it was the best soup ever! We talked about different foods and how they taste. Some foods taste sweet like ice cream, chocolate and donuts. Some food taste sour like lemons and limes. Some foods taste salty like pretzels, chips and crackers.

Ms. Gretchen came for music today. After singing the Hello song the kids got to Shake Their Sillies Out. Next we sang a song about colors and had to follow directions to move to the color words. The kids then helped read the book Chikca Chikca. We used shakes to shake the beat of the book and helped add all the letters to the alphabet tree. Every time we heard Chicka Chicka we moved our shakes in the air and when we hear Boom Boom we tapped the ground. The next song was about an inch worm and flowers. We each had a chance to feel the inch worm noodles and smell a flower. Then it was time to sing the goodbye song.

For science today we made lemonade. First we started with lemons. Everyone had a chance to taste the lemons....they were sour and made us pucker our lips! Then we squeezed the lemons with a juicer to get lots of lemon juice. Then we added water to the juice. The kids all tasted the lemon juice and said it was still sour...we needed to add sugar to make it into lemonade! We had to add a lot of sugar because the lemonade was very sour!

Tomorrow we will talk about our last sense....seeing! Don't forget we will also have Show and Tell!
