This morning we talked about seeds that grow fruits and vegetables. We looked at many different seed packets and decided what will grow if we planted that seed. Pumpkin seeds are white, sun flower seeds are black and white and green bean seeds are brown. During morning circle we talked about the calendar and practiced the days of the week and months of the year.
Today we had so much fun at music! First we started by singing hello to all our friends. Then we sang Old MacDonald. The kids each picked an animal and sang that part of the song to the group. Next we learned a new song about apples. The apple tree was big and tall...but he couldn't sneeze or cough because all the apples would fall off the tree. Next we sang a song about the red, orange and brown leaves falling to the ground. The kids had leaves in their hands to help act out the motions in the song. We sang an ABC song and ended our class with the goodbye song. The kids still love getting a turn to play the guitar!
Our story today was "Grow Flower Grow" by Lisa Bruce. How do you make a flower grow? Spaghetti, pizza, and ice cream
don't seem to work. When Fran gives up and tosses the flower pot
outside, it gets rain, wind, and sunshine...and Fran gets a big,
beautiful flower! The kids then retold the story using picture cue cards. We also talked about the needs of plants...the need water, dirt, sun and air.
For science we planted our own green bean seeds. Before we could get started to reviewed the different parts of a plant. Plants have roots, sprout, stem, flowers or vegetables. The kids each got a flower pot for their seed. They sequenced the steps to planting. First we needed dirt, then we made a hole, then we put the seed in the hole and finally covered it up with more dirt. We watered our plant and need to put it in the sun when we get home so we can watch it grow.
After eating lunch we sang songs about growing a garden and the needs of a plant. I wonder how long it will take for our seeds to start growing?
