Our Trip to Lowes

Today was our first big Out and About....we went to Lowes. The kids did great at drop-off and were excited to start our adventure.
We had a list of items we needed to find on our scavenger hunt...seeds, dirt, shovel, watering can, garden gloves and plants.

On our walk around Lowes we also saw flowers and plants that grow blueberries, blackberries and grapes. One of the kids found a bird bath on the end of a isle. There was a man watering the flowers with a hose...the kids loved watching him help the plants grow. They had so many different kinds of seeds...we can grow flowers, lettuce, green beans, carrots and cucumbers. In the garden center they had pumpkins and gourds for the kids to look at and feel. We also found a rake and a wheelbarrow. Everyone did a wonderful job looking for items on our scavenger hunt list and following directions. It was soo much fun!

After our trip to Lowes it was time to head back to school. It was a long walk (.7 miles) but the kids did a wonderful job!
When we got back from our Out and About we read the story "My Garden" by Kevin Henkes. In the story a girl helped out in her mother’s garden, but in the garden of her imagination, there were chocolate rabbits, tomatoes as big as beach balls, flowers that change color, and seashells. While reading the story the kids told us what could really happen in a garden and things that were pretend. After reading the story the kids told their friends what they saw at Lowes.

The kids were very hungry by lunch time. After everyone finished eating we sang songs about gardens and the farm. It was a great first Out and About....the kids were fabulous!
