In the Mud

There was dirt in the touch and feel pool! They kids loved using their hands to feel the dirt and describe how it felt. During our morning circle we talked about the calendar. We also started to talk about our Out and About to Lowes tomorrow to help prepare the kids for our exciting adventure.

Ms. Michele was here today! First we walked on a balance beam, crawled over colored squares, crawled through a tunnel and picked up an animal. Then the kids acted like their animal and swam, hopped, crawled or ran to the finish line. For finger fun today the kids had to find pumpkins hidden in Ms. Michele's pumpkin patch. Once we found all the pumpkins we passed the bucket around the circle and counted how many pumpkins we found.
Our story today was "One Duck Stuck" by Phyllis Root. Different animals try to help the stuck duck get out of the muck. The book was filled with many rhyming woods as the animals tried to help the duck get out of the slippery mud. After reading the story we talked about rhyming words. These are words that sound alike at the end. We made a list of word that rhyme with -at. We thought of cat, mat, bat, hat, sat, fat, rat, and pat. Then I gave them a word and they had to decided if it rhymed with -at or not.
We also learned about words that rhyme with pig in The Big Pig song.

For science today we compared dirt and mud. After feeling and describing the dirt we added water to make mud. The mud was heavier than the dirt and it was wet! Then the kids used the mud on the table to make pictures, write their name and draw shapes. It was a muddy mess!

We ended the day with music and sang songs about the farm. We also showed the kids pictures of Lowes and the garden center to get ready for our Out and About. See everyone tomorrow morning at Lowes in your Speech Garden shirts!
