This morning the kids practiced their social skill by playing a game together. They had to take turns and follow the rules by only turning over 2 cards when playing memory. When they flip over the cards the kids told the group what animals they found and if they lived on a farm.
During morning circle we talked about the calendar. We started our October pattern. The kids picked a green flower and a blue rectangle to be our shapes for the ABAB pattern. Then we went to writing centers and wrote in our journals about farm animals, practiced the letter "Q", made magnet letters and wrote words with iWriteWords app.
Our story today was "Big Chickens Fly the Coop" by Leslie Helakoski. The four big chickens who are afraid of everything are now feeling all
cooped up, so they set off to find the farmhouse. Where is the farmhouse? First they find a doghouse, then they run into a
tractor, and then they stomp into the barn. They didn't know the farmhouse was
right under their beaks the whole time! After reading the story we added to our "On the Farm" graphic organizer. We added chicken, dog, duck, pumpkin, lettuce, carrots, coop, dog house, and pond to our list.
For art the kids made a chicken. There were lots of pieces so the kids had to follow the directions so they knew where to put each part. Our chicken had a head, body, comb (red part on head), eyes, nose, wattle, 2 wings and 2 feet. After making the chickens the kids retold the adventure the chickens went on in the story.
Before lunch we practiced "Sounds Around Town." We worked on the lip popper, tip tappers, throat scrapers, and lip coolers. Then we practiced different words that start with p, b. t, d, k, g, f, and v. After we finished eating the kids shared their show and tell with the class. The kids love bringing in something from home to show their friends!
