This morning the pool was filled with doctor tools. There were gloves, tongue depressors, cotton balls, and q-tips. The kids loved pretending to be the doctors! During morning circle we talked about the calendar, the day of the week and the months of the year.
Today we had music class! First we sang a song about going to the doctor. We learned that doctors use a thermometer, stethoscope, band-aids, gloves, medicine and take x-rays. Then we sang one of our favorite songs...the Apple Tree song. Next we learned a song about going to the dentist. They also sang 5 Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed. We are sad that next week is our last music class.
Our story today was "Katie Goes to the Doctor" by Liesbet Slegers. Katie doesn’t feel well—she has a cough, a runny nose, and she feels
dizzy. Her mother explains that she has a fever and takes Katie to see
the doctor. Katie allows the doctor listen
to her heart with a stethoscope, look in her ears and mouth, and touch
her belly. When the doctor prescribes some medicine to take, Katie is
excited to know that she will be feeling better soon. After reading the story we made a list of things doctors do....we used facts from the story and stories about our own trips to the doctor for check-ups or when we were sick.
For art today the kids learned about scraps, cuts and band-aids. First the kids glued an arm to their paper. Then they used a red crayon to make scraps and cuts on their arms. The kids picked two band-aids to cover up their cuts so they don't get dirty and can heal.
It was a lot of fun learning about the doctor. Tomorrow we will continue to talk about the doctor and share our own stories about our doctor visits.
