Happy Thanksgiving!

Today we started learning about Thanksgiving! This morning during morning circle we talked about the calendar. We also finished the November pattern. We will start a new pattern in December. We practiced our Sound Brothers and learned our first Cousin sounds. Cousin sounds are very similar...we learned the wind sounds (w, wh, h). We have to use our air to blow out these sounds. The kids also practiced their sounds when everyone had a turn pulling a chip out of the mystery box.
Our story today was "Thanksgiving Day Thanks" by Laura Elliot. In the story a class was preparing for their Thanksgiving Day feast. They learned about the pilgrims coming to American and the Native Americans helping them learn to grow food. The students in the class made hats, necklaces, and decoration for their school feast. The kids shared family traditions with the class....some like to eat turkey or make pumpkin pie. They also talked about being thankful. After reading the story we made a list of things we do during Thanksgiving.

For art today we made a name turkey. First the kids had to unscramble the letters on the feathers to spell their name. Then they glued the feathers onto the turkey in the correct order. Next they added feet, beak and eyes to the turkey. We all practiced saying gobble, gobble!

Before eating lunch we practice writing the letter W and sight words. After eating lunch we learned some Thanksgiving songs. I think the "Turkey Time" video was their favorite!
