Going to the Dentist

This morning the pool was filled with toothbrushes. The kids practiced brushing their teeth and talking about their teeth.
During morning circle we read the story"Going to the Dentist" by Anne Civardi. Jessie and Jack went to the dentist. They made an appointment and had to wait in the waiting room until the dentist was ready. The dentist looked at their teeth, counted their teeth and cleaned their teeth. He talked about the importance of brushing your teeth twice a day and eating healthy food. After reading the story we talked about the special visitor coming after Ms. Michelle.

Ms. Michelle started our session with kids yoga. They each took a turn teaching a yoga pose. The kids did a great job following directions and stretching. Then we worked on puzzles and lacing. The kids sat in a circle so they could pass the puzzles around and share. At the end the kids used do-a-dot markers to make a picture. Some made pictures with the dots and other connected the dots on their paper to make lines.

Then it was time for our special visitor Ms. Debbie. She visited us from Eastover Pediatric Dentistry. First she had us watch a video about Mr. Wiggly Tooth to learn about our teeth and the dentist. She taught us two important things to keep our teeth clean and healthy. We need to brush our teeth 2 times a day and we need to eat healthy foods. She taught us how to brush our teeth with Doogan, her special monster friend. It is important to brush your teeth so the sugarbugs or plaque don't give you cavities. She also showed the kids how to floss using two of our friends and a jump rope. We practiced identifying which food are healthy and which foods are not healthy and bad for our teeth. At the end, Ms. Debbie gave the kids a special goodie bag with lots of fun things inside!

For art today the kids needed to clean the dirty tooth. They used a toothbrush and white "toothpaste" to brush the tooth until it was clean. We didn't want to leave any sugar bugs on our tooth...we wanted it to be healthy and white!

After lunch we ended the day with brushing your teeth songs. They help us remember to brush our teeth in the morning and at bed time. The songs also described all the different place we need to brush to keep our teeth white.
