Happy November!

This morning we started our day playing board games! The kids played either Zingo or Pop Up Pirate. We didn't have enough time to rotate so everyone could play both games...so we will have to play those games another week. The kids loved them!

During morning circle the kids each shared something about Halloween/trick or treating last night. We explored the month of November...it has 30 days. We celebrate Thanksgiving in November. Since it is a new month we needed to start a new pattern. This month our pattern will be AABAAB. The kids selected the two shapes...a circle and a triangle. We practiced our everyday words. The kids also reviewed the sound brother pairs.
The Littlest Pumpkin
Our story today was "The Littlest Pumpkin" by R. A. Herman.Halloween is the most important holiday for any pumpkin. And the Littlest Pumpkin dreams of being the center of attention. Throughout the day, children come and go, picking their pumpkins. And when Bartlett's Farm Stand closes, only the Littlest Pumpkin remains. But just then, a group of mice scurrying around the stand make the Littlest Pumpkin's dream come true. They are having a Halloween party and the littlest pumpkin is the jack-o-lantern! After reading the story the kids answered "wh" questions about important events.

For art today the kids made bats. First they used black paint to make two hand prints. Then they used scissors to cut out the hand prints into bat wings. Then they glued the two bat wings onto a popsicle stick. The kids pretended to fly their bats around the classroom.

For writing/fine motor centers we practiced writing the letter "R", writing sight words on the iPad and working with putty. Before we ate lunch the kids shared their show and tell. I could tell their practiced describing their object with the cue sheet....they did a great job showing their friends what they brought! The kids requested to hear their favorite Halloween songs one more time at the end of the day. Enjoy the weekend and I will see everyone on Monday!
